You’ve tried the purge. You’ve tried the shopping trip. You’ve pinned the outfits, copied the woman at work, bought what the algorithm told you to buy.
And you’re still standing there.
Same closet. Same spiral. Same black pants.
The cycle is the problem.
You’re buying for a life you don’t live. For a body you’re at war with. Without ever stopping to ask… who am I right now, and what do I actually need?
So you purge. And shop. And purge again. And somewhere in that loop, it leaves clothes on the floor and doubt in your head. Why can’t you figure this out? Why does the woman at work look put-together and you’re grabbing the same black pants for the fourth time this week? Why does everyone else seem to have cracked the code?
Because nobody gave you the actual code.
They gave you a color palette. A capsule wardrobe list. A “must-have basics” reel. All of it designed to send you back to the store — not to help you figure out who you are and what SHE needs to wear.
It starts before we touch a single hanger.

HELLO. I’M MONIKA!
I’m Monika Nielsen — Your Closet Therapist.
I’ve helped hundreds of women walk away from the cycle for good. By helping them figure out who they are RIGHT NOW — this body, this life, these things they have to do in the world — and building a closet that actually reflects her.
We have things to do. Standing naked and annoyed in your closet every morning shouldn’t be one of them.
Why The Cycle Keeps Winning
The purge didn’t work because nobody ever made you figure out the why first.
You pulled things out, felt guilty, donated three bags, and then went shopping in the exact same way you always have — emotional, hopeful, slightly desperate. A cute top on sale. A pair of pants that might work. A dress for the version of you that goes to more events than you actually go to.
Six months later? Same problem. New colors.
Buying hope is the most expensive thing in your closet, and it rarely fits.
Knowing WHY is what stops it.
Why do you love that black blazer? Not “it’s classic” — WHY does it work on your body, in your life, for the way you want to show up? Because if you can’t answer that, you cannot shop intentionally. You’re just buying feelings.
And why don’t you like that floral top? THAT question — the one nobody asks — is the only thing standing between you and the next impulse buy that ends up unworn in six months.
When your clothes don’t fit, you’re not really there. You’re too busy wondering if everyone can see your lumpy bits. (They can’t. But YOU know.) That’s enclothed cognition (the science of how clothing affects how you think and perform), and it’s exactly why we get specific about HOW you want to feel.
Before we touch a single hanger, we do the work. A time audit (because your life has chapters and your closet needs clothes for ALL of them, not just the version of you that existed three years ago). We look at how you want to be perceived in this new phase. We get specific about how you want to FEEL — not just “confident” — but do you want to feel authoritative? Pulled together? Soft and easy on a hard day?
And once you know all of that? You open your closet and everything in it is actually for YOU — your body today, your real life, you – right now.
Ready to figure it out?
I've been you
~
I've been you ~
I spent one winter wearing the same two pairs of slightly snug jeans on repeat.
Not because I didn’t know better. I DO know better — I’ve spent 25 years helping women dress for who they actually are. I know what properly fitting clothing does to a woman’s self image, her whole morning.
Put on something that actually fits? You stand taller, shoulders back, chin up.
But I told myself I’d buy new ones when I lost the weight. So I waited. All winter. Same jeans. Thighs blowing out by March. (Friction, amiright?🙄)
And when they finally gave out and I had to go buy a new pair — in whatever size fit me right now — I just stood there in the store.
I’m letting a little piece of cloth dictate my feelings? What is WRONG with me?
I know better and still fell for it.
I know exactly what it costs to wait. The mornings you talked yourself out of feeling good. The outfits that almost worked. Getting dressed and feeling like you already lost before the day started.
I’ve been you. Which means I can help you stop being her.
Your Face Never Lies
Before we ever open a closet door, you do homework.
Real questions. Hard ones. What do you actually wear? What do you never touch and why? What parts of your life have zero representation in your closet right now? How do you want to show up — and not just “confident” — but specifically. Authoritative? Soft and easy on a hard day? More like yourself than you’ve felt in years?
Women sit down with that homework and the aha moments start before I walk in the door. “I keep buying pieces and have nothing for this part of my life.” “Holy cow — every shirt I never wear has a v-neck. I guess I don’t like v-necks.” “I realized I want to show up more bold, more polished — and it’s okay to be more than just classic.”
She’s been buying the same mistake in different colors for years. Nobody ever showed her the pattern before.
Then we get into the closet.
I present your wardrobe back to you — through the lens of what you just learned about yourself. New vision for your own things.
When you hesitate, I ask how you feel. When you make a face — and you will make a face — I tell you: your face never lies. Something isn’t right, or something is exactly right, and your face gives it away before you say a word.
I have women who tell me they now watch their face in the fitting room mirror when they’re shopping alone. Because once you know what to look for, you can’t unknow it.
That’s the bar.
Why can’t every piece in your closet be one you can’t wait to wear?

WHY WORK with ME?
As a first generation purger, I understand the emotional connection we have to our things. We wore them during a certain times of our life, we paid a lot of money for them, we feel like we will get back in them or back to them soon.
Your closet is a personal and vulnerable space. We will walk through your space together with respect and thoughtfulness through the entire process.
But what happens next is just as important!
A big part of my business is making sure that the things you no longer need go to local charities. So I will take the pieces you are ready to donate and then just send you the receipt! No more driving around for 6 months forgetting to drop off and then wondering if it really matters.
Dress for Success, the Assistance League of Denver, Help and Hope Center and other local non-profits are all amazing organizations that have boots on the ground and change people's lives. What used to be your best things can now be anothers womans fresh start.

COLOR ANALYSIS
We are here to find the colors that love you best while also learning the cost of the colors you’re wearing now.
Your session will walk you through 12 distinct color profiles instead of just 4 seasons while considering all 3 color dimensions (temperature, value and chroma) for precision.
It’s flexible enough to accommodate YOUR individual variations and honor your personal style.
And no "throwing out your entire wardrobe" required!
Bottom line, we discover the colors that love you best; the ones that make you look so good, people will ask what's different about you (even if you haven't had enough sleep!)
The result? You'll never waste money on "almost right" colors again.
-
CLOSET EDIT
Your closet is bursting at the seams, yet you still find yourself staring blankly, thinking "I have absolutely nothing to wear!"
It’s not just a meme! It’s also you furiously flipping through hangers as you’re running late and desperately trying to find what you need.
You've mastered the art of the closet stare-down, but putting outfits together feels like solving a complex puzzle.
So you keep trying things on, look at yourself with disapproval and throw it on the floor. You grab your same old things and mutter “meh-good enough”
————————————
After a bit of homework, we will assess all items, hanging and folded. I will present them to you, but YOU decide what stays, what needs to be set aside for later and what gets donated. I take your donations with me and donate on your behalf to local orgs, then mail you your receipt.
Wardrobe Sessions and Personal Shopping are available after this step.

The RETAIL RESET
When it matters and when you care, you need some pieces that light you up, make you feel beautiful, feel uniquely you, standing tall, ready to do your thing and change the world.
A one hour RETAIL RESET is a fast, guided, in store shopping session for women who are tired of fighting every morning in their closet and want clothing that will actually fit for their body today.
One page worksheet and one hour in person shopping. This is not a personal shopping session, it’s an opportunity to learn HOW to shop and WHY it hasn’t worked well for you in the past. Can be done in small boutiques, second hand shops or bigger retail stores.
Retail Reset isn’t about suddenly loving shopping — it’s for women who are tired of avoiding it!

Nope! I have some recommendations based on your level of involvement with a closet build. But I would HIGHLY recommend at least a cleanse and edit before you get started. Many of my clients find they would design much differently if they had a solid idea of their wardrobe.
