25 Years,

One Big Blind Spot

WHY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN HOW ·

WHY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN HOW ·

I’ve stood naked in my closet, furiously flipping through hangers, looking for something — anything — that made me feel like myself.

Not beautiful. Not put together. Just a little bit like me.

I couldn’t find it. Most mornings, I couldn’t even get close.

I’ve been in this industry for over 25 years. And for most of that time, I was doing exactly what every other organizer/stylist does — helping women purge, shop, trend-chase, and repeat. Good purging techniques. Seasonal refreshes. Image tips. The works.

I was good at the HOW.

What I didn’t understand yet was the WHY. Not until my own life cracked it open.

I gained 40 pounds I couldn’t explain or control. My closet was full of beautiful clothes that didn’t fit. I had two pair of jeans I wore all winter — until the thighs literally blew out from friction.

Standing there holding those blown-out pants, I realized I’d been asking the wrong question every single morning. “Why can’t I fix my body?”, I would scowl when faced with the 3 things I could wear. I should’ve been asking “How do I want to show up today?” It honors who I am right now and makes sure I’ve got what I need. Also? Time to stop sabotaging myself every morning by looking at a closet full of clothes that didn’t fit! 🙄

It's always been easy for me to get rid what I no longer wore. But at some point, clothing became wrapped around my self worth. So it was hard. Everything turned upside down and sideways over those years, I wasn’t getting rid of things because I wanted to, (me controlling the situation) I just wouldn’t buy anything that actually fit (me being too stubborn). I was going to lose that weight first dang it!

RIDICULOUS! I know better than that!

I knew had to rearrange my space for the choices I have now...not the future I wanted. Easy.

Remind myself that my closet and wardrobe should evolve as my life evolves. Easy.

Untangle the old stories of who I was based on what I could fit in. Little less easy, but doable.

It’s just cloth. I could dress the body I had right now.

That was the whole shift.

Because here’s what I know now that I didn’t know then.

The purge doesn’t fix it. The shopping trip doesn’t fix it. The perfect color palette, the capsule wardrobe, the “10 basics every woman needs” — none of it fixes it. Not really. Not for long.

You shop. You purge. You shop again. And six months later you’re standing in the same closet with the same feeling.

Yes, my epiphany came from a crisis, but it made me evaluate everything I was doing! Made me dig into the problems in my field and how to fix them. There’s a reason why the system doesn’t really fix anything.

The industry profits from keeping you in the loop of purge-shop-purge. I was part of it. And I’m done with it.

stylist and client laughing with clothing

We figure out who you are — right now, not in 10 lbs, not when the kids are gone, not when you get that next promotion — and we make sure your clothing reflects that.

We stop asking “why can’t I fix my body?” and start asking “how do I want to show up in the world?”

We honor what you have. We let go of what you don’t need. We shop with information instead of hope.

We’re not here to refold your sweaters and buy some new pretty baskets. We’re here to figure out who you are, how you want to show up in the world and make sure your clothing reflects that.

And we do it so that one day soon, you open your closet and it feels like YOU.

What I do now is different.

Because we have things to do in this world.

Standing naked in your closet feeling annoyed shouldn’t be one of them. 😉

Not sure where to start?

That’s what the call is for!
