Change the shape. The gathering trick for tops.
Today we will build a bit on style and shape and how to adjust what you have.
Let's jump in…raw and real in my bathroom since I'm not here to make it look IG stunning.😆 I'm tired, there's laundry everywhere and I need to pack, but I wanted to continue our conversation and show you examples quickly.
The hair band trick
A plain tee and skirt on the left.
Giant hand, little hair band. This one is actually a plastic band that came off the packaging for Tim's new belt.
Grab the point where you want to gather.
Turn the shirt inside out.
Grab your fabric and wrap your band around it.
There's now more visual interest with the draping of the top. It brings it up a bit in length which was good because it was a bit too long, and it gives the eye somewhere to go.
Or try it on the side, or in the middle, or on the back if you want to make it form fitting throughout the front.
I'm telling you, a little scrunchie or hairband is your best friend!
The bangle trick
Here's how to make another interesting shape with a bangle bracelet.
Casual pants with a tank that is too baggy and sits weird. (Who knows why I'm making this face-just focus on the top!😆)
I could tuck it in and it'll be fine.
Big hand, regular size bangle.
Where do you want the gather? I'm choosing middle. Put the bangle on the top of your shirt and flip it over to band the inside.
When you've used your hairband to go around the bangle and secure it, it will look like this as you're pulling your shirt down.
To end up with a fun detail.
Now this outfit still isn't done, but did I mention I need to pack for a 10 day trip and it's almost 7pm? If I were going somewhere, I'd roll up the sleeves, add a decent size necklace and some fun rings. The longer I look at this jacket, I'd probably switch it out for something less barn coat type, but that's just me. 😉
Scarves, while we're here
You could fall down the rabbit hole of styling on IG, people do so many fun things with bands, brooches and scarves. People are so creative!! I'm all about reworking what you have and reimagining fit as we go through the ups and downs of the way our bodies change and settle.
Speaking of clever scarf ideas…there's no shortage of ideas on how to update or expand your wardrobe with scarves. I just watched a woman thread it through the button holes in her blazer and it looked incredible!
If you want to play in the scarf trend, OutWestChic has a whole inventory.
Kym has fabulous pieces in her boutique, in fact the brown pants I'm wearing above are just like the cranberry pair I bought over Christmas. They're super comfy and a great price point. This is not a paid endorsement, I just like her stuff and want to support a fellow woman in business. ❤️
Can you think of any pieces you have that you may be bored of and can update with gathering in different places? Or grab a scarf and play with something new? The goal is to give life to an older piece, play in a new trend and just get excited about getting dressed again. 🎉🎉
Like I say, we have things to do in this world and being naked and annoyed in your closet isn't one of them. 😉
