When Your Calendar and Closet Share the Same Problem- The Art of Letting Go
Ever notice how our habits with time mirror our habits with stuff? Here’s what I discovered about giving ourselves permission to know better - and actually do better.
The Calendar Wake-Up Call
This week has been a doozy…I was sick last week, (hanging out in my ratty grandpa sweater-iykyk😜) so I had to had a ton of meetings I pushed to this week. 3 days in and I was crispy. I mean, super crispy.
I’ve never experienced a time where I didn’t want to talk to anyone. But I was drained completely and it was only 4’oclock on a Wed-not good. I realized it was because I was still feeling a bit run down and had some ridiculous notion that I had to cram everything into one week.
WHY? I’m not going anywhere…my people weren’t going anywhere…
WHY did I feel like I had to reschedule and double up? I think because sometimes I have this nagging voice in the back of my head that says I can do it all. I'll have to unpack that…maybe next week!
The Closet Connection
You know what’s funny? This is exactly what I see in our closets all the time. Just like I crammed my calendar with meetings that could have waited (and burned myself out doing it), we stuff our closets with clothes that are… just fine. You know the ones - nothing wrong with them, but they’re never your first choice. Or your second. Or even your third.
We KNOW we’ll always reach for our favorites.
We KNOW these ‘just fine’ pieces are just taking up space.
Just like I KNEW cramming all those meetings into three days wasn’t smart.
The Permission to Let Go
Here’s the thing - just like I needed to give myself permission to spread those meetings out (hello, bandwidth!), we need to give ourselves permission to let go of these ‘just fine’ clothes.
Because here’s what I know for sure, your ‘just fine’ could be someone else’s ‘just perfect.’ Those pieces taking up space in your closet? They could be making a real difference in our community right now. When you donate to our local organizations, your once-nice things become someone’s treasured finds.
Creating Impact Through Mindful Choices
It’s not just about clearing closet space - it’s about creating impact. Just like I needed to honor my energy by not overcrowding my calendar, we can honor these clothes by letting them fulfill their actual purpose: to be worn and loved.
Taking Action-Your Next Steps
So here’s my challenge to you this week- look at your closet with fresh eyes. Where are you holding onto ‘just fine’ when you could create space for ‘just right’? Are there a few pieces that you know are 4th tier just-in-case items that really are just cluttering up your closet? Let's move them along, and make a little breathing room.
Ready to make an impact? I’d love to connect you with local organizations that will get your ‘just fine’ pieces into the hands of someone who’ll love them. Comment below, or shoot me a message and I’ll share my trusted donation spots with you.
