Relearning the Mirror-A Denver Closet Organizer’s Truth About Clothing Sizes
Wardrobe Stylist Denver: Why Sizing Doesn't Define You
"You are lying! There is no way we are the same size."
I had a client this week refuse to believe we wore the same size. At almost 70, she has been relearning the mirror as I like to call it.
Things shift. Clothing feels different.
She worked through the frustration of the why and she was ready to figure out the how.
Before we even got into her closet, I had to remind her of a couple of things.
We all carry our weight differently. Where she saw my flatter stomach compared to hers, I quickly pointed out all my weight is in my hips/butt/thighs. So yes, we both wore a size 12, and looked completely different.
Obviously we know that- but for some reason we forget when we’re comparing ourselves to the women around us.
Just in case you need a visual reminder. ⬇️

The Sizing Myth That You Need To Overcome
Also, just a quick reminder about sizes...
There are dozens of these pics and even more videos of women in dressing rooms showing the absurdity of it all.
Sizes vary by manufacturer, of course, but even within the same brand by cut and by style. Which makes sense. But it's gotten to the point I can order the exact same pant, same fabric/cut/style and there will be a slight size difference. 😑(this is the actual face I make!)
And the biggest problem? Most of the time we don't blame the pant, we blame ourselves. And that's a bunch of baloney.
I means, c’mon!
This happened to me last year when I bought the same brand/same cut/same size.😑
The New Standard for Your Wardrobe
So starting now, you're pinky swearing with me — no more letting a damn number stitched into your clothes mess with your head.
That number doesn't know you.
It doesn't define your worth, your beauty, or your power.
What matters is this—do you feel good when you put it on?
Do you look in the mirror and own it? Chin up, shoulders back kinda feeling?
Because the number is irrelevant. The fit is what matters — and how it makes you feel? That's everything.
That's your standard now. 💗

As a Denver personal stylist and closet organizer, I work with women of all ages who need to relearn the mirror. The struggle with sizing confusion is real and I’m here to walk you through it! Here's what professional wardrobe styling will focus on instead of numbers:
Proper fit - How the garment actually sits on YOUR unique body-it may take some alterations, but it’ll be the best money you’ve ever spent to get exactly what you want.
Comfort - Can you move, breathe, and live in it? I promise, leggings aren’t the only comfortable pant out there!
Confidence - Does it make you stand taller when you wear it? Chin up, shoulders back kind of feeling. 😉
Function - Does it work for your actual daily life? We get real about the time audit and how you live your life and what you need to do it.
Professional Wardrobe Styling for Women Over 40, 50, 60+
Many of my Denver closet organization clients are women navigating body changes through different life stages. Listen, I know it’s annoying at first! But your style should evolve as your life does and it’s ok to let go of some things. Also, it’s perfectly ok to keep them.
I had a client ask if she was too old for a certain length of skirts, and I asked her if she still felt amazing in them. Long gone are the days of “things not to wear in your 40’s”. But here’s the caveat-if you FEEL like you shouldn’t, you will put off the vibe that you are uncomfortable. How you feel in your soul projects much further than wearing the “proper things”.
If you are standing naked in your closet every morning and flipping through clothing that doesn’t fit or doesn’t excite you because of your
Menopause and body changes - Your body shifts, and that's completely normal
Retirement wardrobe transitions - Moving from corporate to casual but still wanting to look polished
Age 50+ style confidence - Discovering what works for your body NOW, not decades ago
Post-weight fluctuation - Whether gain or loss, learning to dress the body you have today
