So much marketing…
I feel like I'm Black Friday burned out and it's only the 23rd of November.🥴
I have had copious emails this week about every sale under the sun. I had one marketing as an “anti Black Friday sale” which was interesting. I mean I'm all about setting yourself apart- they did a great job. But when it comes to all things to do with your wardrobe…I'm going to give you some advice and things to watch out for.
This isn't going to be the best sale it will ever be!
You know their job is to create a feeling of missing out if you don't buy it. The headlines will tell you HURRY and ALMOST GONE or my favorite, IT"S STILL IN YOUR CART BUT GOING FAST!There are some good deals to be had. But before you click, before you head into the shops, look at your list. Hopefully you have a need list, and a want list. Right now I need some new jeans. With my weight concentrated in my lower half, friction with my thighs is not my friend, I just blew out my favorite pair. I went to ThredUp since I wanted to replace them and hoping when they come in next week they will be perfect. Talk about a deal, nothing beats secondhand!!
My Plan B will be to go shop for them. What will be hard is to resist all the pretty things that will be staring me in the face, all on THE BEST SALE EVER and I will have to have some self control.
On my want list is color. I'm casually looking to add reds and a few burgundy pieces to my wardrobe. I've been looking for a few years, it's not an impulse. There are plenty of things out there, they just don't line up with my style and I'm not going to buy something that I feel “meh” in. I want something amazing! So I'm going to have to run this mental list through my head when I see something that is on some great ½ off sale.
What is this list? A list of questions I need to ask before I buy.
~IS this truly my style or am I just appreciating the piece.
~HOW am I going to wear it?
~Do I have something similar?
(This is a big one because you'll always have your favorites…so unless your intentional in rotating, you'll end up with these surprises when you clean out your closet. Ever said “wow-I forgot I had that?”)
But most important to me and my frugal nature…if I answer the questions above and it's about to pass the test…
~WILL I wear this before it goes on clearance in January?
I am embarrassed to tell you how many times I've been sucked into the false urgency of the sale over the years. I buy it, it sits in my closet and to make it worse, I see that very item 75% off on a clearance rack 7 weeks later. So annoying.
So your closet challenge this week will be to take a pause when you see the SALE SALE SALE message. Think about what you have, what you need and what you want to add.
I pinky promise you that you will save money, and it will keep your closet a bit more curated.
Side note- this goes for everything. I just had to tell my husband we don't need a sous vide machine, no matter how cool it is or what the deals are. We'd use it once and it'll sit there. See also a crepe pan from 10 years ago. 🙄
Tell me what is your biggest temptation? Clothing? Kitchen stuff? Skin care? You can use some good questions to decide if you're being influenced on not. Or just message me-I'm here for you!❤️
